Robert Chen Quoted on The Australian

The principal immigration adviser of VisaMaster  and  Victoria/Tasmania State President of Migration Institute of Australia,  Mr Robert Chen was recently quoted in a news article published on The Australian newspaper.  For details, please click here or the link to The Australian website.

Recently the Department of immigration sent letters to over 1400 international students warning they have breached the condition 8516 of their student visa and as such their student visa may be subject to cancellation. Letters demand the students must respond within 14 days.

The alleged breaches were due to those students switching their courses from a Government university to a private institution. They were previously granted their student visa under a streamlined visa processing arrangement on the basis of their enrolment with a low risk public university.

Some students have been advised by Immigration Department to terminate their course, leave Australia and then apply for a new student visa offshore.

“This is simply too harsh.  Most students are not aware that they have breached their visa condition. The way the system worked, students would not know theirs was a streamlined or non-streamlined visa,”  Mr. Chen Said.

VisaMaster will continue monitoring the situation.  Those students who have received such a letter should immediately seek professional advice.  Our specialist immigration adviser will be able to help you.
